IN THE HOUSE – presenting petitions – National Recovery Awareness Month

44th Parliament, 1st session

Madam Speaker, I am pleased to present a petition on behalf of over 500 Canadians from across the country. These Canadians are indicating that, because connecting people to community is key to successful long-term addiction recovery, and because recovery service providers across Canada working together to overcome addiction is a key element, they are calling upon the House of Commons to support having Canada designate the month of September every year as national recovery awareness month.

This would be a month to recognize and support Canadians recovering from addiction and to demonstrate that recovery from addiction is possible, attainable and sustainable

Mr. Speaker, there have been discussions among the parties, and if you seek it, I believe you will find unanimous consent for the following motion: That, in the opinion of the House, the government should designate the month of September, every year, as national recovery awareness month to recognize and support Canadians recovering from addiction and to demonstrate that recovery from addiction is possible, attainable and sustainable
