Prior to speaking to the media outside the House of Commons, the two NDP MPs sent the attached letter to Finance Minister Bill Morneau.
“With their current plan, about half of all Canadians would get no benefit at all,� said Julian. “During the election, right across this country, we heard from people who are struggling and they told us clearly that they need dental care to be affordable. The government is missing an important opportunity to help millions of Canadians.�
What the Liberals are proposing will cost a staggering $6 billion annually when fully implemented but will provide no benefit at all to 47% of Canadians.
“It’s encouraging that the government mentioned dental care in the Speech from the Throne but now they need to back up that talk with action – this is the perfect opportunity to demonstrate a real commitment to Canadians who have been struggling,� said Davies. “We can work together to really help people. This small change to the Liberals’ plan would make our proposed dental program possible and it would save households at least $1,200 every year.�
