BC DESERVES ANSWERS ON KINDER MORGAN

“The environmental assessment process, gutted by the Conservatives, is in desperate need of a revamp. In the meantime, pipeline projects like the Kinder Morgan are moving forward under a weakened system,� said Julian. “British Columbians deserve to know if the Kinder Morgan pipeline will be subjected to a new environmental process.�

On August 20, 2015 in Esquimalt, BC, when asked if the overhaul of the National Energy Board applied to Kinder Morgan’s application Prime Minister Trudeau answered “Yes, yes. It applies to existing projects, existing pipelines as well…because we’re going to change the government and that process has to be redone.�

Terry Beech, the Liberal MP for Burnaby North-Seymour and now Parliamentary Secretary for Science also told a local newspaper that “Kinder Morgan will have to go through a new, revised process� before it is approved. And Liberal MP for North Vancouver Jonathan Wilkinson, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, pledged that “the Kinder Morgan expansion project must satisfy this new rigorous review.�

“Residents of Burnaby can’t be left in the dark when the Kinder Morgan project continues to move forward,� added Julian. “The land, the air and the water are things British Columbians hold dear. It’s time for a new review process that will take into account First Nations, local communities and cumulative impacts on the environment.�
