FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - United for Ukraine Benefit Concert raised nearly $70,000 for Ukrainian refugees in New Westminster - Burnaby

Yesterday, MP Peter Julian co-hosted the United for Ukraine Benefit Concert with the Holy Eucharist Cathedral, the Burnaby Welcomes Ukraine Support Group, the Burnaby Firefighters Local 323, and the New Westminster Firefighters Local 256. 

  

This joint effort announced support of nearly $70,000.00 for the Ukrainian refugees in New Westminster - Burnaby. The proceeds of this event will go directly towards helping Ukrainians who have suffered displacement, poverty, and trauma as a consequence of the war. The Burnaby Firefighters Local 323 made a special $55,000 cheque presentation to Mr. Mir Huculak, Consul of Ukraine for BC. The Burnaby and New Westminster Firefighters will also match the funds collected last night to a maximum of $5,000. 

“It is fantastic to see the Burnaby and New Westminster Firefighters and the whole community unite to raise funds for the Ukrainian refugees who fled from their homeland due to Vladimir Putin’s vicious invasion of Ukraine. Many of them came to Canada with minimum personal belongings without any household items. These funds will help them settle down from finding a place to live to apply for jobs. The generous donations will make a tremendous difference to many Ukrainian refugees,” stated Julian.

In my riding of New Westminster – Burnaby, over 26,000 seniors, people living with a disability, and families struggling to pay the bills will no longer have to choose between a visit to the dentist or keep a roof over their head.
