NEWS ~ NEW DEMOCRATS PROMOTE CLEAN ENERGY

OTTAWA – Today, New Democrats are gathering with experts to discuss how Canada can take part in the worldwide growing market for clean energy, which will top 3 trillion dollars per year by 2020. The NDP understands that developing Canada’s clean energy sector will stimulate the economy, create jobs and reduce greenhouse gases.

The National Forum on Clean Energy and Industry, organized by MPs Peter Julian, François Choquette and Anne Minh Thu Quach, will involve discussions on how renewable energies and clean technologies will stimulate economic growth, as well as their role in protecting the environment and promoting sustainable growth.

“Canada must commit to an approach based on sustainable development. Not only is it the right thing to do but it will also help ensure our long-term prosperity as a nation in a competitive modern global economy. We must start working with the world and stop working against the planet, said NDP leader Tom Mulcair in his speech to kick off the forum this morning.

After almost a decade of Conservative government, Canada’s international reputation has suffered as a result of an ideological refusal to adapt to a green economy. The vast majority Canadians have clearly called for the federal government to take a leading role in the fight against climate change and developing renewable energies.

“Clean, renewable energies promote innovation, help create jobs and protect the environment in Canada. Canadians can count on the NDP to lead the way,â€ added Mr. Mulcair.
