“Household debt has reached record levels under the Conservatives. And beating that trap is almost impossible when you’re living paycheque-to-paycheque and getting nickel-and-dimed everywhere you turn,� said NDP MP Peter Julian (Burnaby-New Westminster). “New Democrats think Canadians deserve a break—that’s why we’re putting forward practical ideas to take some of the pressure off of household budgets.�
The NDP plan includes measures to ban “pay-to-pay� billing costs, widen access to low-rate credit cards, cap unfair ATM fees, and end payday lenders’ exploitation of vulnerable Canadians.
