NEWS ~ Government failing people with disabilities

“The report falls short on solutions to help more than 600,000 persons with disabilities living in poverty. The situation is worse in Aboriginal communities which remain ignored by the government. This report lists a bunch of programs but offers no coherent vision, said critic for Persons with Disabilities Manon Perreault (Montcalm).

Unfortunately, this report shows that the Conservative government is not taking its obligations seriously. Despite numerous requests, it still has not appointed an independent review body to ensure proper application of the Convention.

“The NDP will continue to call on the Conservatives to do more to improve the well-being of persons with disabilities, reduce the poverty they face and improve their job prospects, added deputy critic Mike Sullivan (York South-Weston).
