NDP MP Peter Julian announces new health critic profile ahead of next election

MP Peter Julian (New Westminster – Burnaby) will be the new health critic, in addition to his continued duties as the House Leader for the NDP.

"I am pleased to take on this new responsibility. The New Democrats have tirelessly advocated for universal Pharmacare and Dental Care. In 2021, I tabled Bill C-213 - An Act to enact the Canada Pharmacare Act, but the Liberals and Conservatives voted it down,” said Julian.

Through the Supply & Confidence Agreement, the New Democrats forced the Liberals to table Bill C-63 – An Act respecting pharmacare, marking the initial step towards a universal, single payer pharmacare system. As a first step, the NDP has successfully forced the government to cover contraception and diabetes medications and devices free-of-charge for everyone who needs it. These measures can save families $200 a year for contraception and more than $1,500 per year for those impacted by diabetes,” added Julian.

“The NDP and I will continue to work hard to force the Liberal government to do more for Canadians. We need to ensure seniors, people with disabilities and low income Canadians are able to have dental care and will be able to take the medications that their doctors prescribe,” stated Julian.
