Mr. Peter Julian (New Westminster—Burnaby, NDP): Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to present a petition on behalf of nearly 150 residents of the city of New Westminster, the city of Burnaby and some other cities in the lower mainland.
The signatures for the petition were collected through the wonderful work of the activists of New West TV. These are volunteer activists who support community television, and the petition points to the following: that the federal government should be supporting community television, should be acting and ensuring that there is a network of community operated media centres to ensure the survival of community television, but also to build on that the availability of community television and community local media in towns and neighbourhoods not served by community television or community media currently, and to ensure that all Canadian residents have access to multi-platform media skills training and content distribution in a digital economy.
