IN THE HOUSE ~ Presentation of Bill C-336 Right to Know

Projet de loi C-336. Présentation et première lecture

    M. Peter Julian (New Westminster—Burnaby, NPD) demande à présenter le projet de loi C-336, Loi portant sur le droit d’être informé relativement aux substances toxiques que contiennent les produits.

     —Monsieur le Président, les Canadiens ont le droit de savoir ce qui pourrait nuire à leur santé ou à l'environnement lorsqu'ils vont magasiner pour acheter des produits de tous les jours pour leur famille, pour eux-mêmes ou pour leur maison. C'est pour cette raison que je présente le projet de loi sur le droit d'être informé.

    Protection begins with knowledge and this is why I am tabling a bill that should provide consumers with the right to access that information, the right to know act. This bill would require that all products, especially foods, household cleaners, and cosmetics, carry clearly marked labels specifying their toxic contents.

    Environmental Defence and others support the objectives of this bill. I hope that all members of Parliament will support this important legislation.

“Canadians are horrified by the incidents of sexual assault and by what they’re hearing from Hockey Canada. They are left with many questions about how this toxic culture is allowed to persist in our sports organizations and what the government is actually doing to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
