FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Lower Mainland Single Mother and Her Three Children Receive Help from Community to Keep a Roof Over Their Heads

Today, Peter Julian MP (New Westminster-Burnaby) organized an event to thank the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society, South Burnaby Legion Branch 83, and Accent Inns Burnaby for their generous financial support to help a Burnaby single mother and her three children, one with cerebral palsy, whose home was destroyed by fire earlier in December.

“My office received a request from Bal Dhillon, Byrne Creek Community School Coordinator, to help his students, Phoenix and his special need sister, Ashbee, and their family, who were displaced by fire on December 3rd in Burnaby. Phoenix’s and Ashbee’s mother, Allison Wale, a single mother of three children, struggled to extend her hotel stay at Accent Inns. Thank you to the Red Cross for extending her stay till December 28. My office contacted Accent Inns’ manager, Chris Brown, who has generously offered to offer complimentary stay for Allison and her family until January 3. Starting on January 4, Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society will provide help to the family so that they will have a roof over their heads at least until mid-January. We are working to get the family permanent housing. This is truly a joint community effort during this holiday season to help this family,” stated Julian.

“Thank you to Mr. Julian’s office for connecting us with Ms. Wale. We would like to offer Ms. Wale and her children a complimentary stay at Accent Inns so that they can continue to have a roof over their heads after January 3rd. We want to make sure Ms. Wale and her children do not have to be out in the cold and snow without a place to stay, especially at this time of the year. Ms. Wale’s children bring smiles and joy to our guests and staff at the Accent Inns. We are very happy that they are staying with us”, added Chris Browne, General Manager of Accent Inns Burnaby.

“The Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society are proud to support the Wale family after being displaced from a devastating fire. Ms. Wale and her three children, Ashbee, Phoenix, and Cypress will not have to be concerned about housing over the holiday season. We applaud many of our community partners who have stepped up to assist the Wale family considering their unique circumstances,” said Scott Alleyn, President of the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society.

“South Burnaby Legion Branch 83 is pleased to offer a $1500 donation to Ms. Wale and her three children so that she can purchase some essential items as well as medical equipment that were destroyed by the fire”, added Steve Jeske, President of South Burnaby Legion Branch 83.

“I want to sincerely thank MP Julian for bringing together community partners such as, Accent Inns Burnaby, the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society and South Burnaby Legion Branch 83 for helping us get through this difficult time. Without their support and generous donations, my children and I would have nowhere to go”, said Allison Wale.
