Web Giants must be held accountable for online algorithms that discriminate against people, and feed hate and misinformation
NDP MP Peter Julian Urges More Transparency on Online Algorithms
OTTAWA — Today, NDP House Leader Peter Julian tabled a bill that would help tackle online discrimination, misinformation and hate harming Canadians. Bill C-292 is seconded by NDP MP Matthew Green (Hamilton Centre). If passed, Julian’s proposal will ensure that profitable Web Giants expose the algorithms they use to target audiences. This will allow the public, civil society, government, and other democratic institutions to hold them accountable for online algorithms that discriminate against specific communities and regions, and that feed people misinformation and harmful content.
