Responsible Government

The public opinion poll at the top shows how Canadians see their federal government, and while it has improved in recent years, it's still not by any means great The NDP ought to strive to back this sentiment that our public leaders should be responsible to the people above all else, seeking to curb or eliminate corruption, apathy and outside influence (like business) in government. If the New Democratic Party wants the label as the party of the people then it should follow in the footsteps of great Canadian reformers like Louis Papineau, William Mackenzie and Joseph Howe. More than likely an uphill battle, if it means senatorial reform or abolishment, electoral reform, cutting back salaries and pensions for politicians and other bureaucrats, and getting money out of politics in general will not be popular among career politicians, but it will be with Canadians.
